Layher discovered the power of highly automated manufacturing many years ago. It has enabled us to safeguard the quality of our products at all times, and means we can continue to operate competitively at our German sites.
The foundations for automated production were laid some 30 years ago, with the purchase of the very first semi-automatic welding machines and steel-deck shaping systems. Since then, automation has played a central role, and has been extended and improved. For all components required in quantities that justify automation, we employ specialist equipment and production lines designed by our own engineers.
Welding is largely performed by robots, guaranteeing precision and quality. At the same time, our human experts make spot checks after each step in manufacturing to verify compliance with specifications. This ensures all parts shipped to our customers are free from faults and fully fit for purpose. We continue to invest in the latest production systems, and remain committed to our customers all over the world. This underpins the quality of our products in the long term, and benefits our customers.

MATERIAL SELECTION
At Layher, we believe safety and quality go hand-in-hand – and our commitment to both starts well before our scaffolding products and accessories are manufactured.
Raw materials are assessed upon arrival at our factory with key processes such as tension, bending, galvanizing quality and dimensional accuracy, all measured against pre-defined parameters. We use a range of testing equipment and procedures – from calibrated hand tools to computerized analysis – working closely with our suppliers to ensure that only material of the highest quality is approved for manufacturing.
We believe this is the first phase in delivering peace of mind for our customers and their workforces – and underpins safety and long-term performance in every installation.
QUALITY MANAGEMENT
Certified, process controlled production with automated optical checks in the fabrication process ensures that Layher scaffolding products feature top quality and maximum safety.
In addition to certified quality management according to DIN ISO 9001:2000, Layher products have earned extensive building authority approvals assuring Layher products have passed international inspections by independent test institutions and professional trade associations and meet most current legal guidelines and standards.

DESTRUCTIVE TESTING
During production, our product integrity tests assure that everything feasible is done to make Layher scaffolding among the safest and most reliable on the market.
The integrity of welded seams, tension testing and force analysis are all examples, with test results also published to provide an accurate and reliable record of the procedures that have been implemented. ISO 9001 and a long list of other international and local regulations are fully adhered to, while products even undergo independent third party testing.
Name and approval referencing ahead of dispatch enhances a full traceability regime, with all products then gaining from 70 years’ worldwide experience and after sales and technical support from highly qualified staff.

Approximately 19,000 miles of tubular steel leave Layher plants each and every year. That is an impressive quantity. But more important is the quality. Because each meter of tubular steel is inextricably linked to our responsibility for our customers’ safety. The focus is, therefore, robust quality management. Our products are compliant with current safety standards and possess DIN/ISO certification, German TÜV approval, and a variety of other German and international quality labels. And we have been certified to DIN EN ISO 9001 since 1994.
Our commitment to quality is comprehensive in nature, commencing with vigorous inspection of incoming goods and impacting all areas of production. So our innovative ideas are turned into reliable, precision-made products. For each component, we have carefully engineered manufacturing processes, backed up by clearly defined work instructions and inspection methods.

Although our suppliers are also certified, our own uncompromising commitment to quality is always implemented, from our intensive incoming goods inspection in-house to every production area.
Quality management is not just about rigorous checks at each stage of production. It is also about the correct marking and comprehensive documentation of all components. Every Layher deck is stamped with information on the machine used for its manufacture, the date, and key production parameters.
We intentionally keep full control of our own core processes. We also believe in people power – so we rely on employees who have years of experience behind them, and we continually invest in skills development programs.
